SHEBOYGAN – Get set to Walk on the Wild Side.
The annual fundraising walk returns to Sheboygan’s Maywood Park, 3615 Mueller Road, from 9 a.m. to noon June 28.
The 3-mile trail walk raises funds for the park’s programs and park improvement projects. A shorter, flat route will also be offered.
The walk will highlight the reptiles and amphibians of the park. As a special feature, Randy Hetzel will be at the event with live reptiles and amphibians.
Participants can explore the park’s six habitats: pine forest, hardwood forest, ponds, river, wetlands and prairie.
The walk offers a casual pace. Along the way, participants can learn about the different reptiles and amphibians that live in each habitat. Several activity stations will engage participants in activities such as making frog sounds, identifying pond critters and learning how aquifers work.
After the walk, guests can partake in snacks and time in the Ecology Center, which includes hands-on activities, live box turtles and other displays.
Advanced registration is available online, via mail or in person at Maywood’s Ecology Center. Registration will also be available at the door. Prices for the fundraising walk are $20 for adults, $10 for ages 4-17, and free for ages 3 and younger.
