The average price of gas in Wisconsin fell by about 12 cents over the Memorial Day weekend.
A gallon of regular gas in Wisconsin averaged $4.38 on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, down from $4.50 from a week earlier, according to AAA.
There was some price relief compared to spring so far, but costs remain at a four-year high for the May holiday. The all-time record for Memorial Day gas prices in Wisconsin was set in 2022, when gas averaged $4.54 a gallon.
The average price per gallon nationwide reached $4.56 on Memorial Day, only slightly below the all-time record of $4.61, set in 2022.
Wisconsin gas prices could fall a few more cents in the next two or three weeks, according to GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan.
Negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz remain the single biggest factor for gas prices in the United States. As long as the strait is effectively closed, gas prices will remain elevated.
