GREEN LAKE – A 9-year-old girl was flown to a hospital Monday after two personal watercraft crashed on Green Lake, injuring two children and involving five juveniles, according to the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called at 2:22 p.m. July 13 after the Green Lake County 911 Dispatch Center received multiple reports of a crash near 390 S. Lawson Drive, a shoreline property on Green Lake.
Green Lake crash involved two personal watercraft
The crash involved two PWCs, short for personal watercraft. A PWC is a small, motorized recreational boat, often known by brand names such as Jet Ski, Sea-Doo or WaveRunner, that riders sit, stand or kneel on rather than ride inside.
9-year-old girl was unconscious after Green Lake PWC crash
When emergency responders arrived, they found the 9-year-old girl unconscious as a result of the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
She was later transported by UW Med Flight. A 13-year-old boy also sustained injuries, authorities said.
The three other juveniles were not injured.
Nearby contractors helped rescue children from Green Lake
Contractors working on a nearby boat removed the injured girl from the water and helped bring the uninjured occupants to safety, the sheriff’s office said.
Berlin EMS responded with units from Princeton, Green Lake and Berlin. Green Lake/Brooklyn Fire, UW Med Flight, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office and a Berlin firefighter who happened to be in the area also responded.
Wisconsin DNR investigating Green Lake personal watercraft crash
The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin DNR.
