Green Bay School District Superintendent Vicki Bayer will retire at the end of the 2025-26 school year, the district announced Oct. 28.
“It has been an honor to serve as Superintendent and to lead this exceptional community of educators and leaders through some very challenging and transformative times,” Bayer said in a news release. “As I have often stated, my hope is that our faculty, staff, administrators and community feel proud of all we have accomplished together. Green Bay is a special place, and it truly has been a privilege to serve this District.”
Bayer has served as superintendent or interim superintendent since February 2024, assuming the role after Superintendent Claude Tiller resigned. She joined the district in 2013 as associate principal at Lombardi Middle School, was the first principal at Dr. Rosa Minoka-Hill and has served in multiple other administrative positions.
“Bayer has stated in the past that she’d return to her position as deputy superintendent after a new superintendent was hired, but she recommended that position remain unfilled to help address the budget deficit,” the news release said.
“The Board of Education extends its deepest gratitude to Superintendent Bayer for her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment over the past several years,” said Board President James Lyerly. “Superintendent Bayer has been a steady and courageous leader, stepping up without hesitation to serve as interim superintendent during times of transition.”
The district is currently looking for its new superintendent, aiming to hire a final candidate before the end of April. It’ll hold community roundtables in early November to get feedback on what residents want.
