Green Bay City Clerk Celestine Jeffreys has resigned after two instances of duplicated absentee ballots that have drawn scrutiny of the city’s election process and spurred an investigation by the Wisconsin Elections Commission.
The resignation was made in a joint announcement by the city and Jeffreys. The announcement did not reference the ballot incidents from April and June.
The announcement read: “The City of Green Bay and Celestine Jeffreys are jointly announcing that Ms. Jeffreys has made the decision to step down from her role as city clerk. We wish her the best in her future endeavors. This will be the city’s only statement on the matter.”
The resignation ended Jeffrey’s five-year tenure as city clerk, begun in 2021 at the appointment of Mayor Eric Genrich.
