Garage and shed destroyed in Manitowoc fire started by moped

MANITOWOC – A fire that started in a moped spread to a garage and shed Sunday, May 10, at a home in the 500 block of Riverview Drive, Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department said in a news release May 12.

Fire crews were dispatched to the fire May 10 and the call was upgraded after dispatchers reported the fire had spread to the garage.

Additional units from Manitowoc Fire Rescue were sent, along with mutual aid from Branch and Two Rivers. Newton provided change-of-quarters coverage, the department said.

The first arriving crew reported heavy fire from the garage and shed.

Crews quickly stretched a hose line between the shed and a neighbor’s garage to protect nearby property, then began extinguishing the blaze.

As more units arrived, firefighters established a water supply and deployed additional lines.

The garage and shed were destroyed, and the exterior of the home and a neighbor’s garage sustained damage, the department said.

No injuries were reported, officials said.

Manitowoc Fire Rescue was assisted by Branch Fire, Two Rivers Fire, Newton Fire, the Manitowoc Police Department and Manitowoc Public Utilities.
