A Milwaukee fuel tank manufacturer plans to add another facility on the city’s far northwest side – an expansion driven by data center growth.
Tramont Manufacturing LLC plans to lease space within the former Super Steel building, 7900 W. Tower Ave. Tramont’s operation would have around 50 employees at that site.
That’s according to a new building permit application filed with the Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services.
Tramont, based at 3637 N. Holton St., plans to use the Tower Avenue site for fabricating steel tanks.
Tramont serves customers which provide generators to data centers, hospitals, and other users, according to the permit application.
The plan is for Tramont to “occupy the building as soon as possible,” wrote Todd Sperber, who works for building owner Pell Street Properties LP, based in Sacramento, California.
Pell Street bought the building in 2022.
Custom manufacturer Super Steel LLC had used the space for decades before leaving the building in 2023, according to Sperber. Super Steel now operates in Mequon.
Tramont was sold recently to Graycliff Partners, a New York-based investment firm, according to a May announcement.
Tramont has “a meaningful and growing presence in the rapidly growing data center market,” that announcement said.
Graycliff “understands our business and shares our vision for the future,” Tramont Executive Chairman Nand Kumar said, in a May statement.
“Their operational and strategic expertise will help position Tramont for its next phase of growth,” said Kumar, who retains “meaningful ownership” in the company.
Tramont “is well positioned to benefit from continued investment in data center infrastructure and grid resiliency,” said Andrew Trigg, Graycliff managing partner.
Tramont representatives didn’t immediately respond to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s questions about the expansion plan.
