Former Juneau County bank manager sentenced for embezzling over $350K

ELROY − A 68-year-old former bank manager was sentenced May 27 for embezzling over $350,000 from customer accounts from a Juneau County bank.

Sandra Campfield, of the Monroe County village of Kendall, pleaded guilty Feb. 18 to embezzlement. U.S. District Judge William Conley sentenced Campfield to 21 months in federal prison and ordered her to pay a $50,000 fine and $395,103.67 in restitution. Conley ordered Campfield to serve two years on supervised release following her prison sentence.

Campfield worked as the long-time branch manager of a bank in the Juneau County city of Elroy, according to a news release from the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin. Between September 2012 and August 2024, Campfield used her position at the bank to steal about $351,344 from customer accounts. Campfield also took about $43,758 worth of foreign currency from the bank’s vault.

During the sentencing, Conley expressed concern over the length and depth of Campfield’s embezzlement scheme and the use of “sophisticated methods” to conceal the fraud, according to the news release. Conley also found it concerning that Campfield abused her management position to execute her embezzlement, according to the release.

The charge was a result of an investigation by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office.
