Burgers, fries and milkshakes — West Allis now has its own Checkers, marking the chain’s first suburban location in the Milwaukee County area.
The project had been in development since 2023. On Oct. 25, 2023, the West Allis Plan Commission approved the site, landscaping and architectural design for the Checkers.
Here’s what we know about the restaurant:
Where is it located?
The new Checkers is located at 11013 W. Greenfield Ave. in West Allis. This location shares a parking lot with Festival Foods and Armory Hockey Development.
When did it open?
The West Allis Checkers location opened on Monday, Sept. 29.
What are the hours?
The Checkers West Allis location is open 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.
Is it dine-in or only take out?
The West Allis Checkers location does not offer dine-in seating. It is drive-through and carryout only. The restaurant does provide outdoor seating for customers, however.
Does it have double drive-throughs?
Despite being known for having two drive-throughs to serve customers, this location only has one drive-through.
Is this Checkers independently owned?
Yes, this location is independently owned by Sanjay Patel, under the MKE Burgers West Allis Inc.
What’s on the menu?
Checkers offerings include burgers, wings, fries, fish and milkshakes.

How many employees?
According to West Allis records, the Checkers West Allis location is expected to have at least 50 full-time employees and 20 part-time employees. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel sent media inquiries to owner Patel for more information on the location, but did not hear back.

Why was West Allis chosen for the expansion?
According to City of West Allis Economic Development Executive Director Patrick Schloss, the city was chosen because this location had great opportunity for high traffic visibility due to Festival Foods and the Armory Hockey Development Center. “The Community is excited for a new fast-food entry into the West Allis market,” Schloss said.
