Fire at Lambeau Field causes evacuation, no injuries reported

A fire in an auxiliary locker room at Lambeau Field caused evacuation of the building, but otherwise was quickly extinguished.

Green Bay Metro Fire Department and Ashwaubenon Public Safety responded to a call to the stadium at about 2:17 p.m. March 3.

“There was no smoke or flames, but you could hear the fire alarms,” said Lt. Shauna Walesh, Green Bay Metro Fire public information officer.

Fire crews quickly located a small fire in Lambeau Field’s newer locker room No. 3. “We are very familiar with the building,” Walesh said. “Like most emergencies, the call taker was pretty descriptive. The response was perfect, as it was designed.”

Responders found the sprinkler system had extinguished most of the fire, Walesh said. The remaining fire was put out with fire extinguishers within 10 minutes of being dispatched, according to the fire department.

No injuries resulted from the incident.

Fire crews helped clear smoke from the building and as of 5 p.m. had left the site. Fire marshals remained to investigate the incident.

The Packers referred questions about the incident to Green Bay Metro Fire.

The third permanent locker room at Lambeau Field was completed in 2024 to make it easier to attract college football games, soccer matches and concerts. The $5 million locker room was funded in part by the Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District, which put $2.97 million toward the project.

The locker room was built on what was the roof of the concessions supply area adjacent to the Lambeau Field loading dock on the south side of the stadium. It is close to the same size as the existing visiting team locker room, about 8,500 square feet, and it’s on the same level, meaning teams using either locker room have to descend a flight of stairs to get to the field.

The space includes offices for coaches and other staff, and separate offices and showers for male and female staffers. The locker room itself includes 90 lockers.
