Father and son who died in murder-suicide on Isle Royale have been identified

The father and son found dead on Isle Royale National Park in early June have been identified as Bradley Baird, 30, and John Baird, 60, according to death certificates from the Keweenaw County Clerk & Register of Deeds in Michigan.

The death certificates, obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on July 3, give the cause of death as “pending law enforcement investigation.” Both were pronounced dead on June 10. Last week, Keweenaw County Michigan’s Medical Examiner Michael McAllister told MLive the suspected cause of death was a murder-suicide.

Official documents list both men’s home addresses as Northville, Michigan, a town outside of Detroit. Bradley Baird is a self-employed writer, and John Baird is president of Admitted Carriers, an insurance company, according to the documents.

The father and son were found dead June 8 at the South Lake Desor Campground on Isle Royale. After being reported, park rangers hiked overnight to the bodies and got there the morning of June 9. A plane and helicopter also arrived.

The National Park Service investigated the deaths with assistance from other state, local and federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Jordan Hall, a spokesman with the FBI’s Detroit field office, confirmed members of the FBI in Michigan had gone to Isle Royale following the discovery of the bodies.
