Ex Whitefish Bay associate principal gets prison time in fatal crash

A former Whitefish Bay School District associate principal was sentenced for her involvement in a drunken driving crash that killed a man last December.

Rebecca Salomon, 52, was sentenced Dec. 15 in Washington County Circuit Court to six years in prison and three years of extended supervision, according to online court records.

The sentence was for a drunken driving crash she was involved in that killed a man in West Bend in December 2024. Salomon pleaded no contest in September to one felony count of homicide by intoxicated use of vehicle; a second felony count of homicide by use of vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration was dismissed.

Salomon’s attorney, Jonathan LaVoy, said Salomon accepted responsibility and said the sentence was fair.

“I think [the judge] found that this was certainly a tragic situation, but also took into account Ms. Salomon’s service to her community, her years of teaching underprivileged children. And I think came up with a fair and appropriate sentence that took into account all the sentencing factors,” LaVoy said in a phone interview Dec. 16.

Salomon was driving home from a West Bend tavern on Dec. 29, 2024, when she crashed into another vehicle, severely injuring the other driver, who died five days later of his injuries, according to the criminal complaint. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction determined that Salomon either failed to stop at a stop sign or failed to yield.

Salomon told police she had three margaritas before leaving the tavern to head home. Police determined she had a blood alcohol level of 0.109%, the criminal complaint said.

Salomon had been an associate principal at Cumberland Elementary School; she resigned March 12.
