Aaron Rodgers seemingly one step closer to returning to Steelers

A report from NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport indicated that veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers was expected to visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend, and “is likely to play for them this season.”

That puts a reunion with Rodgers and new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy one step closer. The two, of course, were architects of a prosperous run in Green Bay, including a win in Super Bowl XLV.

There’s no formal agreement yet in place, but Steelers president Art Rooney II told NFL Network last week that he remained confident Rodgers would be the team’s quarterback in 2026, although the Steelers had initially said they anticipated an answer from Rodgers before the April draft.

The 42-year-old Rodgers was given a rare unrestricted free agent tender by the Steelers, increasing the likelihood that he’d be back with Pittsburgh if he played for anyone in 2026.
