SHEBOYGAN – A 3 Sheeps Brewing beer was selected to represent Wisconsin in the United States’ 250th anniversary events.
The Wisconsin America250 Commission chose the brewery to brew Stay Golden, a craft golden lager first launched in 2020, for the state’s semiquincentennial celebration, according to a news release.
Other states have official celebratory beers, too. Pennsylvania’s is Declaration Lager from Runaway Train Brewery, Ohio’s is an IPA from Columbus Brewing Co., and Anheuser-Busch, which brews Budweiser and Busch Light, was named the official beer sponsor of the America250 celebration.
Stay Golden is a tribute to Kingsbury Beer, which was owned by 3 Sheeps founder and brewmaster Grant Pauly’s family for several decades. His great-grandfather was the president of Kingsbury Beer. Pauly’s grandfather was treasurer and his great uncle was a brewmaster, too.
“At 3 Sheeps, we celebrate the freedom to explore, create and brew ‘What Wisconsin Drinks,’” Pauly said in a news release. “Now, with Stay Golden, we’re proud to help celebrate what America drinks for the 250th birthday celebrations and beyond.”
3 Sheeps redesigned the label and packaging with red, white and blue. It replaced the “From Wisconsin, For Wisconsin” phrase along the bottom with “Proudly Independent Since 1776.” A patriotic stovetop hat, similar to Uncle Sam’s, is also featured instead of the tilted gold crown.
The limited-edition America 250th anniversary packaging can be found at the 3 Sheeps taproom, 1837 North Ave., and select bars, restaurants, groceries and liquor stores through Labor Day.
