27-year-old Oshkosh man identified by police as victim in fatal Menominee Park stabbing

OSHKOSH – Local authorities have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing July 5 in Menominee Park.

Oshkosh police said July 9 that 27-year-old Walter Brooks of Oshkosh died in the incident.

A 19-year-old Fond du Lac man is in custody on suspicion of first-degree intentional homicide in relation to the incident. The suspect’s name has not yet been released by police and the Northwestern does not identify suspects until they have been charged with a crime in court.

According to Oshkosh Police Department, officers were dispatched to a car crash in the 900 block of East Irving Avenue at around 11 p.m. July 5. When they arrived, they found the driver had suffered multiple stab wounds and was deceased.

Police said further investigation revealed a physical altercation had occurred between several individuals inside Menominee Park in the 1200 block of East Irving Avenue. That altercation, according to police, escalated and resulted in Brooks being stabbed.
