At about 9:24 a.m., a deputy in a K-9 team saw a vehicle with an equipment violation heading north on Interstate 41 near County Road B and caught up with the vehicle near the interchange at U.S. 151, just as the driver failed to obey a traffic signal turning north onto U.S. 151.

The driver didn’t yield when the deputy initiated a traffic stop, instead turning onto Camelot Drive. When the vehicle stopped briefly on Police Memorial Drive, the deputy watched as the driver switched seats with a passenger, and then the vehicle suddenly accelerated.

The high-speed pursuit that followed traveled south on Martin Avenue, then U.S. 151. Deputies anticipated the suspects were trying to return to I-41, so when the vehicle entered the interstate, another deputy successfully deployed a tire deflation device.

The vehicle slowed and entered the east ditch, then both occupants fled on foot. The first deputy pursued with his K-9 partner and a second K-9 team, apprehending both suspects and taking them into custody.

Two deputies received minor injuries during the incident, but no property damage was reported.

Following the initial arrests, deputies learned a third individual had fled the scene on foot before deputies apprehended the two women. They searched several acres of wooded terrain near Sales Road and I-41, but were unable to locate anyone.

Later, a tip led deputies to the Planeview Travel Plaza in Oshkosh, where with the cooperation of the Oshkosh Police Department a 33-year-old Shawano man wanted on warrants in Outagamie and Shawano counties was taken into custody.

The original driver, a 42-year-old woman, faces charges including fleeing and eluding, party to a crime; two counts of resisting/obstructing an officer causing injury; possession with intent to deliver Schedule I and II narcotics, party to a crime; possession of THC, party to a crime; possession of drug paraphernalia, party to a crime; and felon in possession of a dangerous weapon.

She had previous convictions of felony eluding and drug-related charges, and is on probation for disorderly conduct and possession of narcotic drugs.

The 34-year-old woman who took over driving during the pursuit faces charges of fleeing and eluding; first-degree recklessly endangering safety; two counts of resisting/obstructing an officer causing injury; possession with intent to deliver Schedule I and II narcotics, party to a crime; possession of THC, party to a crime; possession of drug paraphernalia, party to a crime; and misdemeanor bail jumping.

She also has minor injuries related to the foot pursuit.

The man is expected to face additional charges stemming from the pursuit.

The Wisconsin State Patrol, North Fond du Lac Police Department and North Fond du Lac Fire/EMS services assisted with the incident.
