The National Weather Service station in La Crosse confirmed a tornado touched down in Gilman, a town in Taylor County, Monday evening, April 13. Emergency coordinators are also working to confirm reports of a possible second tornado.
La Crosse station meteorologist Alex Ferguson said the station is working to determine what category of tornado touched down before another wave of storms arrives in the evening.
Taylor County Emergency Management director Daniel Gellert said that there were no reported injuries or displacements with the tornado. One building received minor damage and some trees were downed in the evening.
“With nobody injured, I have to say it was a good tornado – if that’s a thing,” Gellert said.
Gellert added that one trained tornado spotter may have seen a second tornado north of Medford, a city east of Gilman. Gellert was preparing another drone flyover assessment of the area before confirming the second tornado report.
He expected an update on the storms would be available before noon on Tuesday, April 14.
There is an enhanced risk of additional severe thunderstorms in southwest and east central Wisconsin Tuesday evening, according to the NWS.
This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
