US House passes bill to avert government shutdown

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday passed legislation, by a vote of 217-213, that would avert a weekend government shutdown.

The bill would extend government funding largely at current levels through September 30. It will also have to pass the Senate to ensure government agencies can continue operating past Friday midnight, when funding is due to expire.
