'Yellowstone' writer, director to produce, direct Alamo battle film

As work starts on the new Alamo Visitor Center and Museum in San Antonio, a new film will be airing once it is opened in 2027.

On Tuesday, April 7, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced that Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and Emmy-nominated producer Taylor Sheridan has agreed to produce and direct an Alamo battle film for the new museum.

Sheridan is most notable for creating the hit TV show “Yellowstone” and its universe — “1883”, “1923” and “Marshals”.

The film will be shown in the museum’s new 4D Theater – a state-of-the-art immersive experience designed to recreate the story of the Battle of the Alamo.

Dynamic visual effects, sound and physical elements will help visitors gain a deeper understanding of the siege nearly 190 years ago.

“Once I saw the plan for the theater, I knew there was only one screenwriter, film producer, and director in the world to make this film for the Alamo Museum – Taylor Sheridan,” Patrick said. “Over the last decade, Taylor has told the story of the American west – the people, the land, the depth, and the history – in a way no other filmmaker has. In addition to his amazing film portfolio, Taylor is a native Texan who knows and loves our state and its history.”

Patrick said that as soon as he reached out to Sheridan, he agreed to do the project without hesitation.

“The Alamo is the very bedrock Texas was founded upon. To chronicle the sacrifice made by the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives defending the Alamo is an honor I eagerly accept,” Sheridan said.
