Who should be the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week?

The high school basketball season is nearing the end of the regular season while the athletes on the soccer field and wrestling mat continue to shine and several standouts are nominated for the Happy State Bank high school athlete of the week.

The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week each week.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced thereafter.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. each Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@amarillo.com.

Please include statistics from the week’s games and any pertinent information or honors.

This Week’s Finalists

• Kamryn Bailey, Spearman girls basketball — Bailey scored 15 points and added four assists against West Texas.

• Qaletre Garcia, Hereford boys wrestling — Garcia upset the top seed from Aledo in the quarterfinals and then upended Derek Rojo from El Paso Hanks by 6-0 dec in the championship match to win the 126-pound division at the Region I-5A wrestling championships.

• Mark Gallegos, Randall boys wrestling — Gallegos breezed to the regional championship in the 190-pound division at the Region I-5A wrestling championships, topping El Paso Bel Air’s Cesar Ramos in the championship match.

• Kyndal McClain, Randall girls soccer — The sophomore tallied two goals and three assists in a district win against Canyon.

• Riggs Pennington, Canadian boys basketball — Pennington tallied 23 points in a win against Tulia.

• Alec Purdy, Amarillo High boys swimming — Purdy won the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke along with helping the AHS 200 free relay advance to state with a win at the Region I-5A swimming championships.

• Nicole Soldevilla, Borger girls wrestling — Soldevilla captured the girls Region I-5A title in the 105s with a 2-1 decision over Anaveh Gonzales from Lubbock-Cooper.

• Jasmine Vick, Palo Duro girls wrestling — Vick earned a 4-3 decision against Azle’s Elizabeth Yelle in the championship of the Region I-5A wrestling championships at 170.
