See who fans voted as the City National Bank High School Athlete of the Week (Oct. 6-12)

As the 2025 fall high school sports season continues, the Abilene Reporter-News will continue accepting nominations for City National Bank Athlete of the Week throughout the year.

Plenty of action and outstanding performances remain in the high school sports season as local volleyball teams finish out the regular season, football teams start district play and cross-country teams look to compete in regional meets.

The Abilene Reporter-News will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Monday, and several standouts were nominated for the most recent City National Bank Athlete of the Week award.

Our weekly Athlete of the Week polls will start each Monday and close at noon Friday. The winners will be announced afterward.

After nearly a week of voting, Abilene High’s Ethan Joyner was voted the City National Bank Athlete of the Week for Oct. 6-12 after garnering 16,036 votes, or 47.26% of the total votes cast.

Joyner was nominated after he ran for 178 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 25 carries to lead the Eagles to a 35-6 road win over Lubbock Coronado to improve to 3-0 in District 2-5A DI action.

How to nominate for the ARN’s next Athlete of the Week award

Nominations for next week’s award are due by 7 p.m. Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@reporternews.com or Andrew.McCulloch@reporternews.com.

Students participating in all varsity sports are eligible for nomination. Please include an athlete’s statistics/times from a single game/event in an email to the Abilene Reporter-News.

Athletes who win Athlete of the Week can not win the award twice for the same sport. An athlete can be nominated in a different sport but can’t win the award more than three times in a school year.
