For someone nominally retired, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is in the news quite a bit in the early part of 2026.
He set a date for an exhibition with Mike Tyson in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, announced his un-retirement as he celebrated his 49th birthday and set a rematch fight with Manny Pacquiao for September.
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 will come more than 11 years after Mayweather won the initial meeting between the two greats and will count against his 50-0 record.
Is Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Mike Tyson exhibition still on?
Yes. The 49-year-old Mayweather and 59-year-old Tyson announced in September 2025 that they had agreed to an exhibition match in the spring of 2026. They are planning a fight in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa, on April 25.
Tyson last fought in November 2024 against Jake Paul, which Paul won in a unanimous decision. Mayweather retired after his August 2017 win over UFC star Conor McGregor with a 50-0 record. He has since competed in several exhibition boxing matches against Logan Paul, Mikuru Asakura and John Gotti III.

Mayweather announced he is returning to competitive boxing following the exhibition against Mike Tyson. His fight against Manny Pacquiao will be decided by both boxers’ records. Mayweather’s fight against Tyson will not count toward their records.

Netflix confirmed Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 is on for September 19, 2026, at The Sphere in Las Vegas. It will be the first professional boxing event held at The Sphere, which opened in 2023.
The fight will be streamed on Netflix.

Netflix released statements from both boxers.
“I already fought and beat Manny once,” Mayweather declared in a statement. “This time will be the same result.”
“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history,” Pacquiao said in a statement. “The fans have waited long enough – they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him. As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bringing glory to the Philippines.”
