Training camp is not just an opportunity for teams to improve and get clarity on position battles, but also an enjoyable time for fans to get a first look at their team.
Fans going to watch the Texans in camp will be able to see individual and team drills.
But, the Texans have enforced a strict no-video policy. Fans can watch and film during several periods, but there’s an announcement as to when filming from the stands will not be allowed.
Texans coach DeMeco Ryans explained this policy is meant to protect the team from opponents being able to scout plays and schemes they are installing on both sides of the ball.
“It’s important to protect the team, not just videos, but for us and how we operate as a team,” Ryans said. “My main message is always, it’s about the team first. When it comes to the videos and things that are posted, we know that everyone who has a phone is media. We don’t want our plays getting out so other teams can study what we’re doing here in training camp. A lot of teams do this around the league. It’s all about the team. If you’re a true Texans fan and you want to see the Texans succeed, you wouldn’t showcase our plays to teams who don’t know what we’re running.”
This is the first year Houston has implemented the no-video policy.
As Ryans alluded to, the Texans’ move to implement this policy is consistent with a league-wide trend against following fans to record videos at training camp during team drills.
Houston returns to practice on Friday.
