Circle K got its start in El Paso in 1951 when Fred Hervey bought three Kay’s Food Stores. By 1975, there were 1,000 Circle K stores across the U.S., and four years later, the brand entered the international market.

After being acquired by Alimentation Couche-Tard in 2003, Circle K saw its stores represented in over 20 countries to become one of the most recognized convenience store brands on the market.

Where is it?

The new Circle K fuel canopy will be located at 9487 Dyer St. at the corner of Dyer Street and Sanders Avenue.

The new fuel stop is across the street from Ross Dress for Less and Burlington Coat Factory and sits next door to a McDonald’s and nearby Pockets Billiards, Wings and Beer. The new site is catty-corner to a Panda Express location.

What was there before?

The new fuel canopy will be installed next to an existing Circle K store, where the Super Lodge Motel once stood. Nothing remains of the old motel aside from the signposts on an otherwise empty lot.

The city’s permit database does not provide the size of the fuel canopy; however, the empty lot is large enough to accommodate another development, although one is not currently in the works.

Who is the contractor?

The city’s website does not provide a contractor for the $341,873 development, but the applicant is listed as Core States Group of Duluth, Georgia.

With the lot cleared, it is likely construction will begin soon.
