Watch Texas A&M HC Mike Elko's passionate speech after the 16-10 win over Auburn

Texas A&M’s win over Auburn in Week 5 highlighted the Aggies’ defense, which limited Auburn to just 177 yards, including 52 rushing yards and seven sacks, in the unit’s most dominant performance of the season so far. While A&M’s offense produced 414 yards, 13 penalties killed nearly every drive, resulting in 16 points.

Double-digit penalties won’t suffice moving forward, but coach Mike Elko, who is calling defensive plays this season, was very proud of his defense for the elite effort, praising his team’s ability to take control on either side of the ball when the offense or defense is struggling. This type of performance is what championship teams are built on, and could be the reason the Aggies finally earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.

While it’s still very early in the season, Saturday’s primetime home test vs. Mississippi State, like every home game this season, is a must-win for the Aggies to keep pace in the SEC. Over the past three days, Elko has previewed the matchup, knowing that his defense will need to put on a similar performance to prevent the Bulldogs from gaining any early momentum and potentially put the Aggie offense in a hole.

On Wednesday, Texas A&M’s award-winning series “The Pulse” released its latest episode, covering the 16-10 win over the Tigers. Mike Elko’s locker room speech is a must-watch for Aggies and college football fans who need another reason to believe that this Texas A&M team has what it takes to compete in every remaining game this season.

No. 6 Texas A&M will face Mississippi State on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. The game will air on the SEC Network.
