Strong performances on the field and multiple track athletes medaling at the area meet headline this week’s Apple Dental Center Athlete of the Week nominees.
Moody’s Natalie Compian delivered at the plate with three doubles in a win against Alice and Rockport-Fulton’s Logann Wood captured titles in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and contributed to a winning relay team at the area meet.
Refugio’s Jazmyn Howard turned in one of the top all-around performances of the week, winning five events, and Gregory-Portland’s Tristen Grimes added a long jump title and multiple podium finishes.
On the golf course, London’s Ava Villegas defended her regional title to lead the Pirates back to the state tournament and Veterans Memorial tennis player Tom Su also came through in a clutch moment by winning the deciding match in a three-set tiebreaker.

THIS WEEK’S NOMINEES
Natalie Compian, Moody softball — Compian went 3-for-3 with three doubles and two RBIs in a 12-2 win against Alice. She also had two RBIs in a win against Ray to keep the Trojans in the playoff hunt.
Tristen Grimes, Gregory-Portland girls track and field — Grimes won the long jump and was second in the 100 meter hurdles and pole vault at the 29-5A/30-5A area meet.
Gage Hirschfield, Calallen boys golf — Hirschfield shot a two-day score of 150 to lead the Wildcats to a regional title and a berth in the state tournament.
Jazmyn Howard, Refugio girls track and field — Howard won five events, including the 100 meters, long jump, triple jump and as part of the 400 and 800 relay teams at the 31-2A/32-2A area meet.
Tom Su, Veterans Memorial boys tennis — Su won the deciding match of the Region IV-5A tournament in a three-set tiebreaker, securing a victory under pressure.
Benjamin Terry, Flour Bluff baseball — Terry pitched five innings and struck out 10 in a district win against Miller.
Ava Villegas, London girls golf — Villegas shot rounds of 82 and 82 to defend her regional title and lead the Pirates to the UIL state tournament.
Logann Wood, Rockport-Fulton girls track — Wood won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, ran on the winning 400 relay team and finished third in the long jump at the 29-4A/30-4A area meet.
