Vote for the San Angelo Standard-Times Athlete of the Week from May 11-6, presented by City National Bank

As the Texas spring high school sports season marches on, The Standard-Times will continue accepting nominations for City National Bank Athlete of the Week throughout the year.

Plenty of action and outstanding performances remain in the high school sports season as local track, baseball and softball teams compete in the postseason.

The Standard-Times will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Monday, and several standouts were nominated for the most recent City National Bank Athlete of the Week award.

This week’s nominees

Chloe Becker, Veribest girls track and field – She won the state title and set a state meet record in the 100 with a time of 12.20, won the state title in the 200 with a 24.78 and won bronze in the 400 relays as the anchor leg with a time of 51.03.

Mia Clemmer, Coahoma softball – She went 2-for-2 from the plate with three RBIs and a double in an 11-1 win over Wall.

Cohen Ethridge, Richland Springs boys track and field – He won the state title in the 800 relay as the anchor leg with a time of 1:30.29, a bronze as the anchor in the 400 relay with a 43.57, silver in the 300 hurdles with a 38.50 and a silver in the long jump with a leap of 22-7.75.

Caden Klingelhefer, Mason boys track and field – He won the state title in the 800 with a time of 1:57.77.

Kellan Oliver, Wall baseball – He tossed five innings, only giving up one hit, while striking out nine. He was 3-for-5 from the plate with a triple and four RBIs in a win over Coahoma.

Presley “PK” Parker, Irion County girls track and field – She won the state title and set a new state meet record in the pole vault with an 11-7 vault. She also won silver in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.36.

Brice Roesler, Richland Springs boys track and field – He won the state title in the discus with a throw of 165-8, and he won the shot put with a 55-1.5.

Danni Ruiz, Menard girls track and field – She won state titles in the 400 with a time of 58.47, the 800 with a 2:19.16 and the 1,600 with a 2:19.16.

How to nominate for next week’s award

Nominations for next week’s award are due by 5 p.m. every Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@gosanangelo.com.

Students participating in all varsity sports are eligible for nomination. Please include an athlete’s statistics/times from a single game/event in an email to the San Angelo Standard-Times.

Athletes who win Athlete of the Week cannot win the award twice for the same sport. An athlete can be nominated in a different sport, but can’t win the award more than three times in a school year.
