Vote for the Globe-News Athlete of the Week for Feb. 23-28, presented by Happy State Bank

Boys and girls basketball teams are playing for their seasons, soccer is securing playoff spots and baseball and softball squads are finishing tournamnet season and several starring performances are nominated for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week.

The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week each week.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced thereafter.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. each Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@amarillo.com.

Please include statistics from the week’s games and any pertinent information or honors.

Take a look at this week’s candidates and cast your vote.

This Week’s Finalists

• Rylee Anderson, Tascosa girls soccer — Anderson scored four goals and added two assists in a win against Lubbock High.

• Jimmy Cantu, Wellington boys basketball — Cantu poured in 28 points in an area round win against Olton.

• Lexie Cisneros, Hart girls track & field — Cisneros, a freshman, won the 3,200-meter run and finished second in the 1,600 at the Friona Chieftain Relays.

• Hadley Crisp, Texline boys basketball — He scored 25 points in a win against Fort Elliott in the area round of the playoffs.

• Kon Deng, Holy Cross Catholic boys basketball — Deng scored 29 points in the TAPPS state semifinals.

• Maddlyn Longoria, Canadian softball — Longoria had 12 strikeouts and allowed two hits in a five-inning shutout against Detroit, going 2 for 3 with two triples and three RBIs at the plate.

• Blake Robinson, Dumas baseball/track & field — Robinson hit .500 with one triple, 2 RBIs, five runs and one stolen base, also earning a shutout win on the mound with 13 strikouts, also running on the Demons’ 1,600-meter relay team that won the race at the Plainview Meet.

• Riley Segura, Panhandle girls basketball — Segura dropped 20 points in a win against Ropes in the regional semifinals.
