The UTEP men’s basketball team opens Mountain West play in the way it would have scripted it: At the Don Haskins Center, against old rivals New Mexico and Wyoming, in the first games of the calendar year.
When the Miners host New Mexico on Sat., Jan. 2, it will mark UTEP’s first home game against New Mexico since 2020 (shortly before COVID) and Wyoming will be in the Haskins Center on Jan. 5 for the first time since 2019.
UTEP men’s basketball gets 18-game MWC schedule
The 18-game slate is a double-round robin and is not using a travel-partner format. UTEP does not have a home or away streak longer than two games, so there is no extended road trip or home stand.
“Longtime Miner fans will look at this schedule and the opponents and the memories will come flooding back,” UTEP coach Joe Golding said. “We’re looking forward to playing these teams again, both at home and on the road. And we’re excited to start new rivalries with Grand Canyon and UC Davis.”
UTEP’s first road game is Saturday’s, Jan. 9 at Air Force. UTEP then closes the regular season against the Falcons on March 6 in the Haskins Center. All games are still TBA, though UTEP typical starts all weeknight and most weekend games at 7 p.m. There is no bye week so UTEP never has more than four days between games.
The Mountain West tournament will be March 10-13 at Las Vegas’ Thomas & Mack Center, following the conclusion of a separate women’s tournament that runs March 7-10.
The Miners have yet to release their non-conference schedule, though they have indicated it’s mostly completed.
