July has come to a close here in the Big Country, and as students gear up to head back to school and summer vacations come to a close, Abilene’s business scene continues to bloom with exciting grand openings and new business announcements.
From a brand new hotel to a new luxury fitness studio, here’s what happened in Abilene’s local business scene in July.
Business openings
Abilene celebrated the much-anticipated opening of the brand new Five Guys, a popular nationwide burger chain, this month.
Opened on July 2 at 6950 S. Clack St., the restaurant offers hand-cut fries, made-to-order burgers, creamy milkshakes, hot dogs and more.
A new Abilene food truck also opened this month. Don’s Mobile Kitchen opened on July 25, serving loaded hot dogs, smoked sausage, loaded fries and dirty sodas.
Owned by 28-year-old entrepreneur D’Anthies Harris, the food truck is open on Saturday, Sunday, and every other Friday.
Comfort keepers, a nationwide in-home care provider, has expanded into Abilene, celebrating the grand opening of their new office space at 1181 Lytle Way, Suite D on July 10.
SpringHill Suites Abilene also opened its doors this month with a brand new location at 2525 N. Judge Ely Blvd. right by Abilene Christian University.
Duos Edge AI also celebrated this month with the grand opening of their new Abilene Edge data center on July 23.
In partnership with the Region 14 Education Service Center, Duos Edge AI hopes to bridge the digital divide in rural and underserved communities with local high-speed processing.
Sonder Housekeeping, a new housekeeping service, also opened this July, offering Abilene families support with housekeeping chores like cleaning, dishes, and laundry.
Business closures
While many new businesses opened their doors this July, Abilene also said goodbye to Dirty Dough Abilene.
Formerly located at 4464 Buffalo Gap Road, Dirty Dough opened on Aug. 16, 2024, and after two years officially closed on Saturday, July 18.
New things coming
This month also saw many new business announcements, including a luxury fitness studio, The Move Lagree, opening this fall at 24 Hospital Drive, Suite 3.
Founded by Alley Neff, The Move Lagree will be the first fitness studio in Abilene to offer Lagree fitness classes, a high-intensity, low-impact fitness method that utilizes a special patented machine called a Megaformer to achieve a whole-body workout.
A new restaurant was also announced soon to join Abilene’s ever-growing foodie scene. Teriyaki Madness, a fast-casual Seattle-style Japanese concept restaurant chain, has filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to renovate a 1,690-square-foot space at 6838 S. Clack St., Suite 2.
According to the TDLR report, construction began on May 10 and is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 10.
A popular coffee shop chain also announced a new location to open in Abilene. Summer Moon Coffee, a regional coffee shop chain, plans a second Abilene location at the Antilley Shopping Center, 6950 S. Clack St.
According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction is scheduled to begin at the coffee shop on Aug. 24 with an estimated completion date of Nov. 30.
