USA TODAY Sports predicts Texas A&M's 2025 season record

Texas A&M’s national outlook ahead of the 2025 season is a mixed bag based on how the Aggies finished the 2024 campaign after starting 7-1, only to end with an 8-5 record, including three consecutive losses to Auburn, Texas, and USC in the Las Vegas Bowl.

As soon as the offseason began, coach Mike Elko and his staff went to work in the transfer portal, landing 14 players, while signing the highly talented 2025 recruiting class, which features several first-year contributors. However, nothing compares to redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed earning the starting job after Conner Weigman transferred to Houston.

Reed has put in the work this summer to improve as a passer, mainly working on his release, accuracy, and deep ball. He’ll have plenty of talent to work with, knowing that new wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver bring a wealth of speed, quickness, and most importantly, separation in coverage.

Combined with the return of senior Le’Veon Moss, Texas A&M’s running back room is the deepest in the SEC, and behind a veteran offensive line, second-year OC Collin Klein will be able to open up the playbook. On defense, Elko has taken over as the program’s defensive play caller, which should result in better play from the secondary. At the same time, senior edge Cashius Howell will lead the newly formed pass rush.

Texas A&M is considered a College Football Playoff contender, but USA TODAY Sports’ final record projections don’t reflect the progress this team has made to build and keep a roster that is more than good enough to win nine or ten games. Here are the final SEC record projections for all 16 teams.

Tennessee and Oklahoma, two teams with plenty of questions on both sides of the ball, could easily finish 9-3, especially if new Sooners QB John Mateer plays up to his high preseason expectations. Texas A&M’s 8-4, 5-3 SEC record prediction is nothing new, but this means that writers Paul Myerberg and Jim Sergent believe the Aggies will lose Notre Dame, and likely LSU, Missouri, and Florida or South Carolina.

Texas A&M has not won more than eight games since the 2020 season, so until that streak breaks, fighting off the 8-4 allegations will be a continued battle.
