UPDATED Unofficial results are in for Taylor County primary election

Final unofficial results are in for Tuesday’s Primary Joint Election in Taylor County. Election Day returns are considered unofficial until canvassed.

Contested races were in Republican primaries, and some Democrats ran unopposed for their party’s nomination. In those races, the Republican nominee will face off with a Democrat on General Election Day Nov. 3.

Republican nominees Chuck Statler and Mike Hobbs ran a close race in the Precinct 4 county commissioner Republican primaries with Statler landing the majority vote at 55.54% in Taylor County and Mike Hobbs short at just 44.46% of votes.

Republican nominee Eddy Harris took the majority vote in the Precinct 2 justice of the peace GOP primary with 56.92% of votes in Taylor County, beating out Scott Lebowitz at 24.45% and Darla McCrary at 15.93%

These nominees will run unopposed by a Democratic nominee on General Election Day Nov. 3.

Becky Freeman, Republican incumbent, will run against Democratic nominee Pierce LoPachin on Nov. 3 for Taylor County treasurer.

For state House District 71 representative, Republican nominee Jay Hardaway will run against Democrat nominee Diana Luna after he secured the majority vote in the primary with 56.50 % of votes in the district.

Among the other Republican candidates for HD 71, Liz Case held 18.70% of votes, Chance Ferguson 21.70%, and Joshua Ohlemacher 3.20% statewide.

Republican state Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, ran unopposed in the state Senate District 28 primary and is expected to run against Democrat Riley Rodriquez, who also ran unopposed, on Nov. 3.

Primary runoff for 19th Congressional District

The 19th Congressional District representative GOP primary has resulted in a runoff for Tom Sell. With nearly all votes accounted for, Sell holds 40.4% of the votes in the district with Abraham Enriquez holding 18.8% and Abilene’s Matt Smith holding 18.5%.

“All the numbers aren’t in yet, and it’s really too close to tell,” Matt Smith said Wednesday. “Part of the time it’s showing us ahead, and part of the time it’s showing another candidate ahead. So not sure where it’s going to land yet, but we’re still looking at it, and we think that there’s still a chance that we can be in there.”

Primary runoff races will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m. May 26. Early voting for runoffs will be May 18-May 26.

Democrat Kyle Rable ran unopposed in the 19th Congressional District representative primaries and is expected to go head-to-head with the Republican nominee on General Election Day Nov. 3.
