After ten weeks, Texas A&M (8-0, 5-0 SEC) remains one of the best teams in college football, joining Ohio State and Indiana as the three programs with the best chance to win the National Championship, and, if the regular season finished today, would be the top three seeds in the College Football Playoff.
Texas A&M’s success through eight games has only surprised those who doubted starting quarterback Marcel Reed before the season began, knowing that the Aggies’ veteran offensive line and transfer wide receivers Mario Craver and KC Concepcion, who have combined for over 1,200 yards through the air, have elevated Reed’s ability as a pocket passer.
While the offense has been stellar, Texas A&M’s defensive line, which struggled to start the season, erupted in SEC play, producing 32 sacks, led by senior edge Cashius Howell’s breakout season, which has kept the Aggie linebacker rotation and the secondary clean for most of the season. With these two groups, combined with a solid special teams unit, there’s a reason Texas A&M is considered the most complete team in the country.
Before taking on No. 17 Missouri in Columbia on Saturday afternoon, the rest of the SEC slate in Week 10 featured two teams still vying for a College Football Playoff spot, earning close wins, as Georgia escaped Florida. At the same time, the Texas Longhorns kept Vanderbilt from a massive comeback before entering their second bye week.
Tennessee fell at home to Oklahoma 33-27, which virtually eliminates the Volunteers from playoff contention. On Sunday afternoon, it was officially announced that Auburn will move on from head coach Hugh Freeze after the Tigers’ embarrassing home loss to Kentucky—chaos as usual.
Heading into Week 11, here are the updated SEC standings.
