Tommy Lee Monroe, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

At about 1 p.m. Friday, first responders were called out to a collision at the intersection of Hartford Street and Corsicana Avenue in Abilene, a media release from the Abilene Police Department said.

A 2021 white Chevrolet C15 pickup truck was heading east through the intersection while a 1997 white Chevy Tahoe SUV was going north, the media release said.

The Tahoe went through a stop sign, and the two vehicles collided, police said. The SUV turned onto its side, and the driver of the vehicle had to be extricated.

The pickup driver received minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment, police said. No one else was in either vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
