Hello A-J readers!
This week’s news brought a groundbreaking in Seminole and the continuation of the summer review project, along with two new best bites. Let’s get down to business.
On Tuesday, ground was broken for a new United Supermarket in Seminole at the southeast corner of Hobbs Highway and 21st Street. It is expected to open in 2027, according to a news release from The United Family.
“We are thrilled to announce a new United Supermarkets in Seminole,” said Sidney Hopper, president of The United Family. “It is always exciting to break ground on a new store, but this one is special because we know it will bring an enhanced grocery shopping experience in a larger footprint to a community that has already supported us for a long time. We love Seminole and, our team can’t wait to open the doors to this beautiful new building.”
As we have for the past two years, the review team has been hard at work gathering information for the next review. This year’s choice brought me to Post, just a 40-minute drive from town. While I still don’t want to spill the beans on what we are reviewing, I do want to talk about Post itself. We were early for the meeting and decided to roam the red bricks of Main Street, visiting shops and talking to people. Post might not be on anyone’s summertime day trip bucket list, but it should be. It reminded me of the small towns I grew up in, full of friendly people and historic buildings. It’s a cool place, and I plan to revisit when I’m not under the rush of an assignment.
I recently tried two new-to-me businesses: Nate’s Bake Shoppe and Pasticceria Filomena. Nate’s Bake Shoppe is a food truck with a selection of baked goods, including one of the best brownies I’ve had in a while. The beer bread also offered a different, and appreciated, taste.
Pasticceria Filomena, a porch market specializing in generations-old Italian cuisine, also opened last week. Though a bit hard for my GPS to find, I highly recommend people follow pasticceriafilomena.com for the next shop day. I dream of that tiramisu, exactly like the first tiramisu that made me love the dessert. It was perfection, and the best tiramisu I have had in Lubbock.
Next week, we might hear about another chicken place wanting to join Lubbock and the reveal of the summer review. Stay tuned.
