Two Central Texas men died Tuesday in a collision with another vehicle in Fisher County, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a media release.
Elmo Nowlain, 80, of Valley Mills and Andrew Starr, 39, of Hamilton were pronounced dead at the scene after their 2015 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup collided with a 2024 Ford F-150, the DPS said.
The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 180 and FM Road 611 about 11 miles west of Roby and nearly halfway to Snyder, the DPS said.
According to the DPS media release, the preliminary investigation determined that both pickups were traveling in opposite directions on U.S. Highway 180 with Nowlain driving west on the highway.
At about 4:17 p.m., he turned left on FM Road 611, failing to yield the right of way to the F-150 being driven east by Joseph Shults, 38, of Ropesville, the DPS said.
The Dodge Ram struck Shults’ Ford, and Nowlain and Starr, who were not wearing seatbelts, were both killed, the DPS said. Shults suffered minor injuries and was transported to Fisher County Hospital.
