Two former Longhorns shine for Broncos in playoffs

As the Denver Broncos continued their Super Bowl title run, they got contributions from everyone on the roster in their win over the Bills on Sunday. That includes former Longhorns P.J. Locke and Lil’Jordan Humphrey. The talented duo made their presence known as the Broncos outlasted Buffalo in an overtime thriller.

Against a talented Bills secondary, Lil’ Jordan Humphrey hauled two of his five targets for 33 yards. He also found the end zone once in the second quarter to give the Broncos a 17-10 lead. Although his biggest catch came early on, the 27-year-old finished fourth on the team in targets. He trailed only Marvin Sims Jr., Courtland Sutton, and RJ Harvey.

While Humphrey left his stamp on the offense, Locke excelled in the Broncos’ secondary. He finished third on the team in total tackles with nine. The Texas native also added one pass deflection to his resume. However, that was not the only way he played a role in the Broncos’ moving on.

In his second career postseason game, Locke picked off Josh Allen with the Broncos leading 23-17 in the third quarter. While Buffalo would tie the game later on, Locke gave Denver a brief boost and returned the pick 30 yards. It was one of the two interceptions that the Broncos had against one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

Now, the Broncos will shift their focus to the AFC Championship, where they will face the New England Patriots. With starting quarterback Bo Nix out of action due to a fractured bone in his ankle, Denver will need Humphrey and Locke to be at their best. They showed on one Sunday that in the postseason, they can be difference-makers when needed.
