Texas A&M’s No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class is nearly complete after landing four-star linebacker Mikahi Allen, who chose the Aggies over Texas and South Carolina. While priority prospect and five-star running back Landon Williams-Callis placed A&M in his final group before announcing his commitment on August 1, the Texas Longhorns currently lead for the blue-chip back.
If the Aggies lose out on Williams-Callis, the pursuit won’t stop, and four-star RB SaRod Baker, who is committed to Texas Tech, is also a name to watch down the stretch. Still, it’s important to note that coach Mike Elko and running back coach Trooper Taylor landed two of the top running backs in the 2026 recruiting class, as KJ Edwards and Carsyn Baker look like the future backfield, coupled with sophomore Jamarion Morrow, who is competing for a starting job this fall.
Landing a physical running back with NFL-level speed and agility is important, but building the future offensive line is even more critical, and third-year O-line coach Adam Cushing has already secured commitments from four of the top-ranked offensive linemen in the 2027 cycle, led by five-star tackles Mark Matthews and Kennedy Brown, combined with four-star tackles DeMarrion Johnson and Kaeden Scott.
On Friday, ESPN recruiting analyst Billy Tucker updated his Top 25 prospect rankings in the 2027 class, placing Kennedy Brown at No. 7 overall, noting the five-star’s elite athleticism and notable wingspan that provides Cushing plenty of versatility as a guard or tackle.
“A three-year starter with a track and field background, Brown showcases length and athleticism. His 86-inch wingspan and 11-inch hands would’ve measured longer than any first-round tackle in the 2026 NFL draft. Brown also has a powerful lower half with light feet and the reach to slow speed rushers off the edge. Brown has the physical attributes to push for early playing time once he arrives in College Station. He’s coming off an injury but has the physical intangibles and competitive demeanor to dominate at the next level.”
Compared to the updated Rivals300 rankings, Mark Matthews is the No. 2-ranked prospect overall and is ranked 15th. While many consider Matthews the better overall player, Tucker notes that developing his “power and strength” and adding more weight to his frame are key to reaching his elite potential.
“Matthews is an athletic offensive lineman with good size and very good agility. He plays with natural bend and flexibility, and his light feet help separate him from other tackles by allowing him to reach edge rushers effectively. As he continues to develop his power and strength in the weight room while refining his technique, Matthews has all the tools to become a highly skilled offensive tackle at the next level. Between Matthews and Kennedy Brown, the Aggies have two of the 15 best recruits in the country — and potential future bookend tackles.”
