Three things to do in Abilene this weekend

What are you doing this weekend? That can be one of the most anticipated, and sometimes dreaded, questions at the conclusion of a busy week.

While the weekend finally provides much-needed me time, it can sometimes be daunting trying to figure out exactly what is going on to participate in.

That’s why we did the work for you and rounded up some of the top local events happening here in Abilene.

Here are three local events you won’t want to miss.

Josh Turner at Abilene Auditorium

Josh Turner is bringing his This Country Music Thing Tour to Abilene, performing Friday at the Abilene Auditorium.

With popular songs like “Long Black Train,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance,=” and the chart-topping “Your Man,” Turner has earned five No. 1 singles and more than 6 billion global career streams in his career as a country artist.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with opener Abby Cone taking the stage at 7:30 p.m., followed by Turner. Tickets start at $29 and can be purchased on the event venue’s website.

Adventure Cove Reopens

It’s almost summer, and you can beat the heat by visiting Abilene’s very own water park, Adventure Cove, officially opening Saturday.

Located at 2742 S. 9th Street, Adventure Cover offers a relaxing lazy river, kids’ area and exciting water slides. Kids 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and only Coast Guard-approved floating devices are allowed.

Kids 2 and under get in the park free, and season passes can be purchased on the city’s website.

Jerrin’s Hope Car Show

Jerrin’s Hope, an Abilene nonprofit treatment center, is partnering with the United Methodist Service Center and Food Pantry to host their first-ever car show Saturday.

The event is free to the public to attend, and car registration is $20 or $10 with a donation of a nonperishable food item. The show will be held at 2626 N. First St.

Registration is 8-10 a.m., and judging begins at 10:30 a.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to best in show, people’s choice, best paint job and best engine build.

For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.
