That SEC Podcast predicts Texas A&M football's 2025 record in second year under Mike Elko

With Texas A&M’s 2025 college football campaign set to kick off on Saturday against UTSA in Bryan-College Station, Texas, That SEC Podcast host Michael Bratton (SEC Mike) and co-host Cousin Shane locked in their final record predictions for the Aggies.

Head coach Mike Elko spent the offseason racking up top-rated transfer portal talent like former NC State standout wide receiver KC Concepcion and key pieces in the Texas A&M secondary like Julian Humphrey (Georgia) and Jordan Shaw (Washington) to pair with returner Will Lee III, who is expected to make a massive jump this season.

With the roster loaded with talent, the time is now for the Aggies to overcome the national narratives and reach the playoffs for the first time in school history. However, the schedule features contests against five teams ranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll, three of which are located in the top 10 teams. If the program aspires to be a playoff team come December, it will require success against one of the most demanding schedules in the country.

Can Texas A&M prove the naysayers wrong and become one of the best squads in the Southeastern Conference? Bratton and Shane analyze what the Aggies bring to the table in Elko’s second year at the helm with one of the most talented rosters since joining the SEC in 2012.

Cousin Shane’s record prediction and breakdown of Texas A&M

“Everybody get them 8-4 jokes in now because this team ain’t going 8-4… They’re going 7-5. I do feel like at the end of the season, we’ll feel better about going into year three under Elko, but I feel like there’s going to be some growing pains and 7-5 is on the board here.

“On paper Shane, these are some very, very difficult road games. As I was going through it, I was like… ‘It’s going to be difficult,’ but it ain’t going to be that difficult Shane. Give me 10-2, A&M is back, going to the College Football Playoff, I ain’t backing down. Did you hear what I said about Kevin Concepcion? Did you hear what I said about Marcel Reed? I think A&M is back baby, I think they’ve risen. I think A&M is the sleeping giant. Maybe, this is the year we finally put it all together. Give me A&M 10-2.”

Texas A&M kicks off the 2025-2026 season against the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m. CT in College Station. The game is slated to broadcast live on ESPN, as Elko and company look to start a new campaign on the right foot.
