The Texas Veterans Commission is encouraging Texans to pause and remember those who gave their lives in sacrifice for the nation as they observe Memorial Day coming up on Monday.
Laura Koerner, Texas Veterans Commission chairwoman and U.S. Navy veteran, shared a message ahead of Memorial Day.
“On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation,” Koerner said in a media release. “Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedoms we cherish today.”
She invited Texans to join the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. on Monday.
“Take a moment to reflect on those who gave everything in defense of our ideals,” she said.
“We also remember the families and loved ones who carry that loss every day. Your sacrifice is not forgotten,” Koerner said. “Your loved one’s courage lives on in the story of our nation.”
Over 1.5 million veterans and thousands of family members who carry the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice live in the Lone Star State, the media release said.
“The Texas Veterans Commission advocates for and provides superior service to veterans that will significantly improve the quality of life for all Texas veterans, their families and survivors,” the TVC said in the media release.
