The Texas Tech Red Raiders have a lot of new faces on their men’s basketball roster this year. They were a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament last year and advanced to the Round of 32, where they fell just short against the Louisville Cardinals. One of the newcomers is junior guard Damarion Dennis.
Dennis transferred from the Wyoming Cowboys and signed with Texas Tech back in April. He averaged 11.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists last year with the Cowboys as a sophomore. Entering this season, Dennis is embracing his role as an underdog and shared that it’s what drives him to be a better player.
“I feel like I’ve been the underdog my whole life, under-recruited, so I feel like that’s where the hunger comes from,” Dennis said.
“I feel like I’ve been facing adversity my whole life. Like I said, being under-recruited, that’s where the dog comes from and that’s where guarding the best player comes from.”
Dennis reached double figures 19 times last season. As a college player, he has already scored 586 points, grabbed 165 rebounds, dished out 87 assists and recorded 54 steals. He made 34 three-point shots at Wyoming.
