Texas A&M’s ninth preseason practice on Saturday also served as the Aggies’ first scrimmage. Redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed has, from this writer’s standpoint, taken the next step in his development as a passer, and thanks to Texas A&M’s media team, Reed’s impressive accuracy was on full display, hitting transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton in stride for a deep pass that was right on the money.
If Reed’s completion percentage on deep balls vastly improves, Texas A&M’s passing game under new OC Holmon Wiggins should at least match last season’s production, while the running game, spearheaded by redshirt junior Rueben Owens and sophomore Jamarion Morrow, continues to take shape, especially for Morrow, who continues to look like one of the more reliable and versatile playmakers on the roster.
On Saturday, the Aggie media team captured Jamarion Morrow as he made his way to the end zone after a long run, dodging several defenders and shifting into second gear after making his initial cut. During his 2025 freshman season, Morrow rushed for 182 yards and a score, combined with 80 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
During the Maroon & White Game, Morrow’s vision and second-level burst made him the best one-cut running back on the roster at that time, which still stands after four months. Whether Wiggins and OL coach Adam Cushing plan to use a running back-by-committee approach or name a starter within the next two weeks, Morrow’s “drum beat” continues to get louder with every practice.
