The Albany Lions and Coahoma Bulldogs headlined a busy weekend for Big Country schools on the gridiron during the 7-on-7 Texas high school football state championships in College Station over the weekend.
From Abilene High and Haskell, to Stephenville and Albany, a total of eight Big Country high school football programs qualified to compete in the 7-on-7 state championship tournament.
Teams were separated into three divisions: Division I, which included 5A and 6A teams; Division II, which was mainly composed of 4A and large 3A programs; and Division III, which featured mostly 2A and small 3A schools.
The Albany Lions swept thru their pool play opponents and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division III bracket, while the Coahoma Bulldogs finished second in their pool but made a run to the 7-on-7 state semifinals.
