Texas ex Quinn Ewers leads Dolphins to win in second career start

As the Miami Dolphins shift their focus to the 2026 campaign, they are trying to identify who can be key pieces going forward. That has allowed former Longhorn Quinn Ewers to show why the Dolphins would be in good hands with him leading the way. On Sunday, he put together his best performance yet in his first NFL win.

Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ secondary, Ewers completed 14 of his 22 passes for 172 yards. He also found the end zone twice and added five rushing yards to his resume. In his second career start, the Texas native was efficient with the football and showed that he belongs in the NFL.

With Ewers under center, the Dolphins’ offense reached new heights. That started with a 63-yard touchdown pass to fellow rookie Theo Wease Jr. in the first quarter, Miami’s longest offensive play of the season. In the first half, Ewers had 144 passing yards, the most by a Dolphins quarterback this season. In the second half, the offense slowed down, but the former seventh-round pick did enough to ensure the Dolphins got their seventh win of the season.

While the Dolphins’ playoff chances are dead, Ewers showed his leadership by keeping his teammates motivated. For the Dolphins’ rookie, that is part of the job description.

“It comes with the position,” Ewers told ESPN Beat Reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques. “It’s important that you tell your teammates how you feel and how you want them to play, whether it’s my second start or, God willing, I’m playing four or five years from now. It’s always going to be the same message.”

Following Ewers’ latest milestone, he has 485 passing yards and two touchdowns in three games this season. While the sample size is small, he is getting more comfortable with each game, which is an encouraging sign for Miami. He will be looking to finish the season strong on Sunday in the Dolphins’ regular-season finale against the New England Patriots.
