Texas A&M transfer forward invited to the 2025 NBA Draft Combine

New Texas A&M basketball head coach Bucky McMillan is on his way to turning the program around after Buzz Williams departed for Maryland early last month. needing to make a splash in the transfer portal, McMillan landed a commitment from Indiana transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who was a five-star prospect out of high school, and a potential first-round NBA draft selection.

This week, joining Texas A&M senior guard and the program’s all-time scoring leader Wade Taylor IV, both players participated in the NBA G League Elite camp this week, and while Taylor performed admirably, Mgbako was the star of the week, scoring 19 games, four rebounds and two steals in Game 1, and 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists in Game 2.

Due to his elite performance, Mgbako has been invited to continue showing off his skillset during the draft process, as he is one of 75 players invited to the NFL Draft Combine which takes place in Chicago this week. For those wondering about his future with Texas A&M, the combine process is a great way to gain information about his play, especially what he needs to work on.

Right now, Mgbako likely needs one for college season to reach his high potential at the next level, and getting ahead of the process is key to being a high first-round selection in the 2026 NBA draft. Mgbacko has until May 28 to opt out of the NBA draft process, and while there is the potential for him to leave, I fully expect him to stay committed to the Aggie for at least the 2025 season.
