Texas A&M star working with Indianapolis QB at QB Country Nashville

Texas A&M’s 2026 roster will feature 43 new players from the transfer portal (17) and the 2026 signing class (26) as coach Mike Elko enters his third season at the helm with plenty of momentum after leading the Aggies to the College Football Playoff in Year 2. After watching a record ten players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, the most important position on the roster returns one of the SEC’s best starters.

Entering his third season, and second full starting campaign, redshirt junior signal caller Marcel Reed returns for what could be his final year under center, depending on how much the Tennessee native improves this fall. After throwing for a career-high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns, he had 12 interceptions, including a combined four in the Aggies’ lone losses to Texas and Miami in the CFP.

Working with first-year QB coach Joey Lynch, Reed’s footwork and decision-making in the pocket continue to be areas for improvement, and while his need to get the ball out quicker and utilize his elite wide receiver room should match last season’s production through the air, bailing out of bad situations and using his legs, especially in big games, must continue to be the focus.

Last season, Reed’s most complete performance came during the Aggies’ blowout road win over LSU, accounting for over 200 yards passing and 100-plus yards on the ground and four touchdowns, but in an effort to prevent injury, former OC Collin Klein pulled back designed runs as the season wound down.

This offseason, in an effort to reach his full potential, Reed is back in Tennessee at QB Country Nashville and was seen working out with NFL quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Kyle Trask, alongside former Notre Dame QB, now Kentucky signal caller, Kenny Minchey.

Working with other established quarterbacks, similar to the annual Manning Passing Academy, Reed will continue to put in the work this offseason to refine his craft. Fall camp begins in early August.
