Midweek games have a way of getting weird, and Tuesday night at Blue Bell Park delivered exactly that as Texas A&M hosted system‑mate Tarleton State. The matchup turned into a back‑and‑forth slugfest, but the biggest storyline belonged to an Aggie veteran climbing into rare company in the program’s home run record book.
Texas A&M has been loaded with power in recent seasons headlined by Jace LaViolette, the program’s all‑time home run king with 57, but another bat is rapidly rising up the charts. Junior outfielder Caden Sorrell, coming off a tough 1‑for‑14 weekend against Florida, responded with authority. He launched two solo home runs, each arriving at critical moments to keep the Aggies in the fight.
Sorrell opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a no‑doubt solo shot for a 1–0 lead. His second blast, his 20th of the season, tied for the seventh‑most in a single A&M season, came in the fifth inning, trimming Tarleton’s lead to 5–4 and reigniting the home crowd.
That swing also carried historical weight. With career homer No. 43, Sorrell moved into a tie for fifth all‑time with former Aggie slugger Mike Scanlin, continuing a steady climb that now places him among the most productive power hitters in program history.
