Texas A&M softball lose sophomore pitcher to the transfer portal

Texas A&M softball is heading into a pivotal offseason, and the first major development is a tough one for the pitching staff. For the second straight year, the Aggies were eliminated in their own Regional, and once again, inconsistent pitching proved too much for the offense to overcome. Now, they’ll enter 2026 without one of their most promising arms.

On Tuesday, sophomore left‑hander Kate Munnerlyn announced she intends to enter the transfer portal. The decision comes as a surprise inside the program, as Munnerlyn was widely expected to take on a significant role next season with veterans Grace Sparks and Taylor Pannell graduating. Her departure leaves a major hole in a rotation already short on postseason experience.

Munnerlyn brought a valuable profile to the staff. A lefty with a deceptive changeup and the ability to neutralize lineups when she settled in. Her best outing came last season against Kennesaw State, when she tossed a perfect game in an 8–0 run‑rule victory, flashing the ceiling, coaches believed she could reach with more innings.

For a team that desperately needs stability in the circle, this is a meaningful setback. Head coach Trisha Ford now faces an urgent offseason in the portal, where she’ll need to add not just depth, but impact arms capable of competing in the SEC, a league where elite pitching is non‑negotiable.

Below is Munnerlyn’s full announcement.
