Texas A&M remains in good shape to land 2026 5-star Edge out of Alabama

Texas A&M could end the year with a half-dozen five-star commitments in the 2026 recruiting class and is on the verge of matching the historic 2022 cycle, still considered the best recruiting class in college football history. However, results are proven on the field. Under second-year head coach Mike Elko, this cycle feels different, mainly due to the relationships he and the staff have built with all 24 commitments.

After landing the program’s 24 commitments on Saturday, after five-star edge/defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright committed to the program over Clemson, Texas, and Miami, the Aggies are now awaiting the No. 1-ranked defensive lineman in the class, five-star Lamar Brown, who is slated to choose either Texas A&M or LSU on Thursday, July 10.

On Monday, On3/Rivals insider Steve Wiltfong provided an update ahead of Brown’s commitment during his appearance on Josh Newberg’s YouTube show, stating that while LSU has the edge, Brown’s strong relationship with Elko and Texas A&M defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer, paried with his seven visits to College Station.

Wiltfong also discussed 2026 five-star edge Anthony “Tank” Jones, who included Texas A&M in his final three program list, along with Alabama and Oregon. Texas A&M has already received a prediction to land Jones after his recent official visit.

“I could make a case for all three, right?” Wiltfong stated. “Alabama is probably the program I liked the most throughout his recruitment, but there’s some buzz about A&M, those relationships, he’s been there a bunch, and no program has recruited him harder from start to finish.”

Wiltfong also briefly mentioned Texas A&M’s pursuit of four-star edge KJ Ford, four-star wide receiver Jace Mathews, five-star safety Bralan Womack, and four-star tight end Evan Jacobson, who have all included the Aggies as final contenders.
